A fake Tor browser that steals bitcoins has appeared on the Internet

Cybersecurity experts have discovered that the Rodeo Browser app is stealing bitcoins from users by masquerading as the famous Tor browser.

The essence of the scam is as follows. A video manual teaching how to shop on the Darknet on illegal sites selling illicit goods is distributed via YouTube. Users are offered to download the Tor browser, supposedly specially adapted for instant communication with the Rodeo drug store.

In fact, the downloaded Rodeo Browser program downloads the Tor interface but does not provide a secure channel to the Darknet in the .onion domain zone. A customer who enters the store using the downloaded browser and orders drugs pays with cryptocurrency, but does not receive his order. Moreover, in a number of cases, bitcoins disappeared from users immediately after being transferred to the Rodeo wallet.
