Bookmakers fleeced the disabled man like a stick
An unprecedented gambling incident occurred in the UK. As the general public learned, two bookmakers had been accepting sports bets from a disabled person with serious illnesses for a long time. The worst thing is that all the money he lost was received as compensation for the operation that led to his disability.
The victim's lawyer claims that both companies, namely the well-known Paddy Power and Ladbrokes Coral, did not restrict the disabled person's access to the betting procedure for three years. As a result, he lost more than half a million pounds! The victim became disabled in 2007. After surgery, he suffered speech and musculoskeletal disorders. As a result of the unsuccessful operation, the patient received an impressive amount of compensation.
According to the lawyer, bookmakers were obliged to take into account the client's condition and limit betting due to the fact that he belongs to a vulnerable group of the population. The corresponding law is in force in the UK. The lawyer of the victim filed a claim on behalf of the client demanding compensation for the inaction of bookmakers, as a result of which such an impressive loss was incurred. At the same time, the player's wife did not know about the situation until the last moment.
Because of this outrageous case, many citizens of the country demand that the responsibility of gaming companies towards vulnerable groups of the population be tightened. Most likely, the law of 2005, which concerns the organization of gambling, will be supplemented and amended.
A representative of the operator, who runs one of the bookmakers, said that his company regrets what happened and assures that in the future they will be more responsible towards their clients and, if necessary, interfere with their activity. This will help avoid such misunderstandings. Also, the company employee said that his company prioritizes tasks related to the safety of clients. Representatives of the second bookmaker have so far refrained from commenting.
