Difficulties for representatives of the gambling industry are not something unusual. It is difficult to imagine a country in which gambling exists separately from the state and operates according to its own laws. Some restrictions are the norm that prevents chaos in this area, but sometimes the laws are so absurd that it is unclear how they were adopted at all. Below are several strange laws that are in effect in different countries.
African continent
There are many countries here, each with its own laws. Many residents of the continent are very gambling, which is quite understandable due to the poverty in which they live. Naturally, in difficult economic conditions, the dream of a big win is completely natural. However, in some countries, the legislation may seem very strange to Europeans or Americans. For example, in Uganda, they really like to bet on sports, giving preference to English Premier League matches. Recently, a bet was recorded here in which a local resident bet his car and wife on the victory of one of the teams. The most interesting thing is that the laws of this country allow gambling on children, relatives, etc. This is permissible in accordance with the customs of ethnic groups.
Greece
The country's authorities have clearly overdone it in their efforts to restrict access to gambling content. In 2002, they passed a law that prohibited playing any video games in Internet cafes, and in 2003, this decree was extended to all public places in the country. As a result, even online chess and gaming consoles like PlayStation were banned! There are also some problems with betting. Only one office has the right to place bets. We are talking about the Greek organization of football predictions (OPAP). At the same time, the organization's bookmaking license expires in 2030. It is unknown whether it will be extended.
Canada
Canadians are not allowed to receive winnings for a game result that may seem like simple luck. For example, at the racetrack, having guessed which horse will be the winner, the player will have to prove that it was not luck, but a “subtle” calculation. To do this, he will be asked to solve a mathematical problem in his head. Moreover, even a schoolchild can easily cope with it. The example could be like this: 75 x 3: 5 – 8.
USA
This country has the most absurd laws, since each state can have its own laws regarding gambling. For example, Ohio prohibits betting for money in public places (cafes, stores, etc.). Those who violate the ban can end up behind bars. This state also has another strange law that prohibits installing slot machines in toilets. Washington State prohibits transmitting game information using electronic devices (smartphones, telegraph, walkie-talkies, etc.). The law was adopted relatively recently, in 2006.
Some states have a law that allows you to demand compensation from a counterparty if a citizen of the country has lost at least 5$. The statute of limitations for such cases is five years. That is, you can sue the winner and, most likely, such a claim will be satisfied. In New Jersey, residents can block their own access to gambling. In case of violation of their own prohibition, the money won plus interest will be sent to the state budget in the form of a fine. You can also pay for playing for money in home games. In the state of Maine, households cannot win more than 3$, since such a win will be considered illegal. In Iowa, the limit on such entertainment is higher. It is prohibited to win more than 50$.
Australia
It is known that the locals are considered the most gambling in the world. Apparently, for this reason, in 2010, a law was passed for casino visitors. Before playing, they had to set a maximum threshold of funds that they were willing to lose during their visit. As soon as the limit was exhausted, access to the games was blocked. Several years later, this law was repealed, since not only players but also operators were unhappy with it. After a donation of 1.3 million dollars was transferred to two political parties, the law was repealed. However, to this day, ATMs are not allowed in gambling establishments. This limits visitors' access to their funds.
