Punishment for organizing illegal gambling in Russia has been tightened
New amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation have recently entered into force. We are talking about toughening the punishment for organizing gambling outside of official gambling zones. Including on the Internet. Now the organizers can be fined one and a half million rubles or restricted in freedom for up to six years!
Let us recall that although casinos have been officially banned since 2009, in reality, the organizers of underground land-based and virtual casinos have been prosecuted by law for only about 5-7 years. By the way, only last year a demand was signed to ban transactions in favor of gambling establishments from the Russian banking system. Nevertheless, a huge number of illegal sites continue to operate and accept transfers from gambling users, disguised as ordinary commercial companies.
Analysts have calculated the approximate shadow turnover of online gambling in the Russian Federation. It is more than three billion dollars! As the expert on economics of the State Duma of the Russian Federation N. Kulikov specified, the violators are the owners of illegal online casinos. Clients who make deposits through electronic wallets cannot be considered violators of the law, since they are not the organizers of illegal business.
By the way, most licensed casinos are registered in countries where gambling is allowed, so it is difficult to charge them with organizing an illegal business in Russia. In fact, they have nothing to do with our country and operate on the basis of the laws of the states in which they received a license to provide gambling services. Blocking such resources in RuNet is under the jurisdiction of Roskomnadzor, and whether they succeed or not can be considered a "headache" of this organization, and not a problem for the owners of licensed gaming platforms.
