A clandestine gambling establishment in Bali has been dismantled

Most Russians have heard about the spicy Bali as a resort where you can have a great time and vacation for very modest (relatively) monetary means. However, not everyone knows that this state in Indonesia is quite criminalized. More precisely, it has very strong ties between mafia groups and state structures. However, outwardly everything looks very decent, so as not to scare away tourists.

Gambling is prohibited on the island. There are no casinos or gambling halls here. Moreover, even poker is banned in this state, despite the fact that in many countries of the world it is recognized almost passive sports discipline. Nevertheless, as in many other states, Bali occasionally opens underground gambling establishments, which are mostly visited not by residents of the country, but by tourists or temporarily residing citizens of other countries.

The other day local law enforcement agencies discovered and covered up an underground gambling establishment where poker games were played. Both organizers and visitors of the illegal poker room are citizens of Russia and Belarus (26 Russians and 1 Belarusian). After the local police arrived in the midst of the tournament, all the men in the illegal establishment were detained.

As it turned out, the buy-in was about 2 million Indonesian rupiah (about 11 thousand rubles). Now all the organizers and participants of the underground tournament (men) have already been released from prison, but their documents (passports) have not been returned to them. According to information circulating on social networks, they ask their followers to urgently contact the Russian Embassy, as they are under severe pressure (apparently, for some reason they cannot do it themselves). Some of them claim that while in prison they were "induced to intimacy", and now they demand a ransom of 10 thousand US dollars for the return of documents.

At the moment, there have been no comments on this situation either from representatives of the Russian Embassy or from the Indonesian authorities. In any case, one should not "go into a monastery with one's own charter", let alone open underground gambling establishments in a country where gambling is prohibited.
