The main visitors to UK online casinos are the poorest people in the population
A major charity company GambleAware commissioned a new study, which showed that residents of disadvantaged areas of the UK spend a record amount of money on gambling. Quite unexpectedly, it turned out that it is the poorest people and are the most gamblers in online casinos. The study was conducted for more than a year, as it was studied almost 140 thousand accounts of gamers. The results were analyzed for almost 2.5 years, because the array of information received is very large.
As a result, it turned out that no less than 29% of the studied player questionnaires belonged to residents of disadvantaged neighborhoods. Not only the games preferred by gamers were studied, but also the bets that are most often made by users. As the experts stated after receiving the results, it is now absolutely certain that the main losses of gambling visitors occurred in those who live in disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Moreover, as many analysts believe, today the situation can only worsen due to the negative consequences of economic nature. We should not forget the consequences of the pandemic, which led to the closure of many businesses and increased unemployment in the UK. The poor have been hit very hard. This, in turn, encourages them to spend even more in casinos in the hope of correcting their financial situation in case of a big win.
It should be recalled that the study was started a year before the pandemic and completed just a couple of months before the pandemic began. If it were conducted today, the results would likely be even less comforting. It's no secret that the middle and poor classes are the most affected by lockdowns and other restrictions. They are traditionally the main visitors of online casinos. Apparently, customers from these social strata of society have significantly increased in online casinos over the last couple of years.
