Organizers of underground casinos sentenced
As recently reported, In Mari El, the Ministry of Internal Affairs stopped the illegal activity of a group of people, which organized underground gambling entertainment in the republic. A trial was held recently, where three organizers of the illegal business were convicted. The members of the criminal community were accused of receiving illegal profits, which amounted to more than seven million rubles. This information was provided by the press service of the prosecutor of the republic.
The court found that between April 2018 and January 2019, a group of individuals organized illegal gambling in Yoshkar-Ola and other populated areas. In total, the group opened eight underground establishments, which were accessible to a limited circle of trusted persons. The illegal activity was carefully disguised, which allowed the network of illegal casinos to exist for almost a year. As a result of this activity, the criminals received a solid profit of more than seven million rubles.
During the trial, the defendants fully admitted their guilt. The court sentenced them to 1 year and 10 months with a probationary period of 24 months. In addition, two defendants must pay fines to the state treasury in the amount of 144 and 192 thousand rubles. The republic's prosecutor's office supervised this criminal case throughout the investigation, which was carried out by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Mari El.
Such crimes are quite common in the Russian Federation. Their significant increase occurred after the ban on legal casinos and the organization of only a few gambling zones throughout the country. Law enforcement agencies regularly identify illegal gambling establishments on the territory of the state. The result of the suppression of illegal activity is the arrest of the organizers, who are sentenced to fines and other punishments.
