Illegal online casino blocked
Today, online gambling is prohibited in Russia. Supervisory authorities are actively monitoring the Internet to identify and suppress illegal gambling. Since there are several gambling zones in the country, underground casinos cause significant harm to the country's economy and also cause crimes, since most illegal gambling halls deceive customers.
Recently, a court hearing was held in the Oryol region, where a decision was made to close (block) access to one of the online gambling sites. The decision was based on the data provided by the prosecutor's office that the resource is a site where illegal activities are carried out to provide online gambling services.
The blocked resource was discovered by accident during Internet monitoring by employees of the supervisory authority. The site featured counterfeit slot machines (so-called scripted). That is, the organizers of the underground casino not only violated the law prohibiting the opening of online casinos in the Russian Federation, but also engaged in fraud by providing illegal gaming software for use by visitors.
The court hearing was held in a very unusual format, since in order to provide evidence, the prosecutor, right during the trial, went to an illegal gaming site using an official laptop and demonstrated to the judge that the site provided access to gambling for money.
The prosecutor recalled that Federal Law No. 244-FZ, which regulates the activities of operators and casinos, is in effect in the Russian Federation. It states that gambling is permitted only in specially designated zones. There are four of them today (Primorye, Yantarnaya, Krasnaya Polyana, and Sibirskaya Moneta). The fifth, in Crimea, is still in the design and construction stage. Outside these zones, the opening of gambling establishments, with the exception of bookmakers and betting shops, is prohibited.
All the evidence and arguments provided by the prosecutor were accepted by the court. As a result, the illegal gambling site was blocked.
