The US wants to legalize online gambling and betting
The United States is a country that has been hit by the COVID-19 epidemic much harder than any other country in the world. Unplanned budget expenditures amount to billions of dollars. At the same time, there is no end in sight to the additional expenses. In this regard, the government is looking for additional sources of income that will allow at least partially offsetting the serious losses incurred in just three months.
As the public has learned, one of the options is the legalization of online casinos and permission for virtual bookmakers to operate, which will accept sports bets online (in many states, this is prohibited). The main sports that are considered traditional for the country have not yet resumed competitions. In this regard, I would like to remind you that in some European countries, the most spectacular sports are already emerging from quarantine. In particular, we are talking about football, and in Korea, baseball competitions are starting.
The CEO of one of the largest bookmakers in New York, Mr. M. King, told the press that he hopes that the updated legislation regarding the legalization of online casinos and sports betting will meet the criteria of common sense. The government is simply obliged to take measures to solve the financial problems associated with the state budget. Permission for virtual gambling and online betting will allow for additional income in the form of proceeds from licensing bookmakers and online casinos, as well as taxes that the budget will receive in the future.
Let us recall that today only four US states have legalized the operation of virtual casinos and 18 have allowed online sports betting. The governments of several states have already declared their readiness to legalize the virtual gambling business. We are talking about California, Massachusetts, Louisiana and Ohio. There is no doubt that other states are also not averse to considering this issue, since serious holes in the budget caused by the pandemic need to be patched somehow.
