Russian bookmakers and bettors expect new problems
Significant changes may occur in the Russian betting market in the near future. After the adoption of the new law on the Unified Regulator of Gambling, the line in bookmakers may be significantly reduced. The number of sports on which you can bet will be reduced. Representatives of the country's leading bookmakers never tire of repeating this.
Last week (December 8), the State Duma deputies adopted the law on the establishment of the Unified Gambling Regulator in the first reading. The Ministry of Finance immediately announced that bookmaker deductions would increase to 10% against the current 5%. Experts warn that this news is a very negative factor and will lead to serious consequences, since some bookmakers will find it difficult to survive in the new conditions.
According to one of the owners of the Tennisi.bet bookmaker, if the new law is adopted in the final reading without changes, his office will reduce the line to 6-7 of the most popular sports. Most likely, these will be football, hockey, basketball, tennis and several other most popular sports among bettors. This will happen due to new deductions, which are going to increase to 10%. As a result, the bookmaker's margin will decrease significantly, which will make this business not very profitable. Today, on average, the bookmaker's margin is 4-5%, of which targeted deductions are 1%. If these deductions increase, a blow will be dealt not only to the business, but also to the players. As you know, all the negative news in our country, first of all, affects consumers.
Bookmakers are eagerly awaiting the second reading of the bill and hope that the reasonable component will prevail. In any case, the situation should become clear in the nearest future. Also, the representative of the bookmaker noted that the new law infringes not only bookmakers and players, but also federations of some sports. They will simply receive much less, since paying several extra millions for not the most popular sports will be inappropriate. As a result, bookmakers will reduce the line. By the way, the president of the bookmaker "BetBoom" completely agrees with this opinion and also believes that if the law is adopted unchanged, the bookmaker market of the Russian Federation will decline.
