New Jersey Considers Allowing Marijuana Sales in Casinos

In Atlantic City (New Jersey) there are plans to legalize marijuana. The city's mayor said that the official sale of cannabis will allow the city's gambling establishments to begin a new promising stage of casino development. In fact, the connection between gambling clubs and soft drugs is very strange and seems to exist only in the heads of the mayor and members of his administration. The idea is that taxes for the sale of cannabis on the territory of gambling establishments will go to the city budget. This will become a kind of compensation for the fact that fees for casino income, parking near them, as well as tax deductions from hotel owners associated with the gambling business, go to the state budget, and not to the city budget.

On the day of the US presidential election, another vote was held in the city. In it, 67% citizens agreed that marijuana sales in recreational establishments should be allowed. Similar votes were held not only in New Jersey, but also in three other US states: Montana, Arizona and South Dakota.

Despite the statements of the mayor of Atlantic City, the Head of the Association of Gambling Facilities of New Jersey S. Callender is sure that at this stage it is not necessary to publicly discuss the issue of legalization of soft drugs, since there is no clear justification for this from the legislative body. It is not difficult to guess that in the case of a positive decision on this issue, the influx of tourists to the state will sharply increase, since they will be able to legally use marijuana without fear of prosecution.

By the way, Atlantic City, which has a well-developed gambling infrastructure, is ideal for hosting guests who want to use cannabis as an additional form of recreation. Today, the city has seven 24-hour casinos. Incidentally, the shares of companies associated with the city's gambling business have risen sharply in price after these statements. Perhaps this was the main goal of the city administration. In this case, a corrupt connection between the mayor and gambling magnates is visible.
