Bookmakers have found a way to make money during quarantine
Quarantine measures taken around the world have led to the cancellation of almost all significant sporting events, tournaments and championships. The result of this was major losses suffered by all bookmakers along with land-based gambling establishments. However, a way has been found that will allow a number of Russian and foreign bookmakers to stay afloat. We are talking about eSports, which will temporarily replace all other sporting events.
Naturally, it will be difficult for those offices that have not previously paid due attention to cyber sportsmen to quickly reorient themselves exclusively to this direction. However, bookmakers that offered bets on such competitions even before the introduction of restrictive measures related to the pandemic around the world will receive significant advantages.
A. Kokhanovsky, who is the CEO of ZeroGravity Group, as well as the founder of SE Sports and the NaVi organization, told the press about the benefits that the eSports industry will receive during the quarantine period:
- The number of matches is increasing. New tournaments will start weekly.
- Sponsorship will increase significantly, as eSports is one of the few areas where you can make good money during the quarantine period.
- The popularity of eSports will also grow. And not only among young people, but also among a more mature audience.
The listed advantages were announced at a conference that was held online. It had a very symbolic name: Betting in the face of COVID-19.
Mr. Kokhanovsky answered the question of when, in his opinion, “live” tournaments and competitions in the field of eSports will be resumed. He believes that this will happen no earlier than the end of this year, but rather in early 2021. Even if quarantine measures are completely lifted in the Russian Federation in the near future, it will not be possible to organize large international tournaments, since most countries are also in quarantine. It is unknown when borders will be opened and international flights will be allowed. Accordingly, for now we can only count on competitions that will be organized online.
