A new gambling zone may appear in Russia
The sharp economic downturn in the country due to the ongoing pandemic is becoming a reason to search for non-standard solutions to improve the situation in certain regions of the Russian Federation. Previously, initiatives proposed by the authorities of some regions were out of the question, but in the context of the growing crisis, everything is becoming possible.
The authorities of the Stavropol Territory recently put forward two ideas at once that should help overcome the negative economic consequences that have arisen over the past year. The Minister of Tourism and Resorts of the Territory, A. Trukhachev, spoke in the Federation Council. He proposed allowing health resort zones to acquire a license for the sale of alcoholic beverages. In his opinion, this will significantly increase the profitability of boarding houses and sanatoriums, which is currently at a very low level. Naturally, health resorts did not have and could not have such permits before. According to the minister, alcohol will bring the missing funds to the budget.
This rather strange initiative was not the only original proposal from the Stavropol Territory administration. Within the framework of the key topic, which was directly related to the restoration of the economic independence of the region, it was proposed to turn the Caucasian Mineral Waters resort into a gambling zone. The initiative to create a gambling cluster came from Governor V. Vladimirov himself. In fairness, it should be noted that a similar idea arose three years ago and was supported by N. Fedorov, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council. However, at the end of summer this year, Y. Trutnev (Deputy Prime Minister) categorically refused to implement this project. According to him, the Stavropol authorities should develop existing tourist destinations, and not build new ones.
However, after just a little over two months, there is hope that such proposals can be accepted and their implementation will soon begin. In the context of a widespread lockdown and the development of negative consequences in the economic sphere, the government decided to consider in more detail the proposal to open a gambling zone in the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Many are inclined to believe that this could be a fairly effective measure that will help overcome financial problems in Stavropol. First of all, investors interested in building casinos and entertainment venues will appear here, which means that the financial burden on the budget will be reduced.
